The Revolution Starts at Home: Confronting Partner Abuse in Activist Communities – reviewed at Feminist Review

Preventing Domestic Violence in the Leather/BDSM/Fetish Community

Over the past several months, my partners and I have started an on-going conversation about gendered oppression, sexual violence and our intimate relationships. This has been difficult for all three of us; I think we each feel sometimes like we are picking our way through a minefield of triggers. However, I also feel more deeply and authentically connected with them than I ever have before.

I’d eventually like to share some of the things here that I’m learning from this conversation. I’m not ready to do that yet.

But in the meantime, I wanted to save and share a couple of links addressing domestic violence in alternative relationships and communities. The first is a book-length zine that I hope to find a copy of. The second is a series of brief pamphlets discussing abuse within the context of BDSM relationships, but also as it relates to polyfolk, sex workers, trans people, people discriminated against on the basis of age, size, and ability/disability.

If anyone is reading this and has other related links, I would love to check them out.
